Meetings
Our
meetings are the second Thursday of each month at Westminster Presbyterian
Church on Country Club Dr. between Eager Rd. and N. Valdosta Rd.
Students are encouraged
to bring a presentation to the regular monthly meetings to present to the group.
Student Showcase allows children to gain experience standing and speaking
or performing in front of a large group. They
can share a book report, sing a song, recite a poem or the alphabet, show a
model creation, or whatever they feel inclined to present.
Let Susan Washabaugh know in advance that your child has something to
share and we’ll be sure to let them go first.
Please arrive at 1:15pm to prepare so the meeting can begin on time.
October
9 – Safety Month

officer will speak to the older kids and the younger kids will watch a safety

October
23 - Mom's Tea at Lisa Muncy's - 6:30pm
Bring
a finger food to share if you can.
November
13,
6pm – International Night
International
Night is where each family chooses a country they would like to study. The
family then does 3 things: (1) prepares a display board of your country on a
tri-fold board. We like to have displays but the display could be a cereal
box with all the information on it or some other interesting way to display
information on your country. (2) prepares 2 dishes from your country for
our dinner; and (3) prepares a 5 minute oral presentation (Parents and Children)
about your country.
We begin the evening with a game for the children. The children review the
display boards of all of the countries to obtain the answers they need to
complete a puzzle sheet. Next, we have a "pot-luck" dinner. We
eat all of the dishes prepared from each of the different countries. Lastly,
each family does an oral presentation of their country.
You will need to sign up for your country at the October meeting.
If you don't wish to actually participate in International Night, you are still
welcome to attend and bring 2 American dishes for dinner. However, you will also
need to sign up at the October meeting with how many in your family will be
attending so we know how many to expect for dinner.
December 11 – Christmas Caroling at Ashley House
We'll meet at the church
and then head to Ashley House. Bring homemade cards to
give to residents. Goodies for
nurses.

TESTING
VAHA
will be offering the ITBS Test on May 18st – 20th from 8:30a.m. to 12:00pm
each day at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The cost, which is set by BJU
Press, is $42.80 per child. You must be a member of VAHA for your children to
test. Applications for testing and your check for the costs must be submitted to
Sherry Harrell, testing coordinator, at the regular March meeting on March 12th.
Absolutely no exceptions! She will have
applications for you to fill out at the meeting.
Parents
who have children testing must be on the premises of the church at all times
while the tests are being administered.
The
children are divided into six different testing groups: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd through
5th, 6th through 8th, and 9th through 12th. In order to make the testing
environment nonstressful, the children are given frequent breaks and a snack
each day. In addition, parents are expected to help with one chore during the
testing such as preparing snacks, cleaning up, keeping the nursery, etc.
Georgia’s
Home Study law requires homeschooled children to take a nationally normed
standardized test (ex. ITBS, SAT, CAT) at the end of grades 3, 6 and 9. In
addition, many of us like to test our children at the end of each grade so that
we have some sense of how our children are doing. So VAHA offers the ITBS Test
each year to children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade as a service to
its members.
