May 13 - Honor's Night 6pm

This is always a great evening. Each family will recognize their children's accomplishments for the year. It can be as simple as taking on responsibility or finishing the year's school. Even virtues can be recognized. In the past, families have presented certificates, trophies and gifts. It's up to you to decide.

Mark your calendar now so you don't miss out. Sign up sheets will be available at the April Meeting. We need to know how many will be eating (10 to adult and 3-9). VAHA will furnish the meat and drinks. Each family should bring 2 side dishes.

We will have a graduation ceremony for Kindergartners, 5th and 8th graders  and Seniors.

FACT Classes

What are FACT classes?

F - fun A - activities and C - classes T - together

Classes offered in the past include:  sewing, scrapbooking, science club, cooking, jump rope, woodshop and preschool classes.  Teachers usually plan a class for younger kids and the same subject for older students.  We have offered classes in the Fall and Spring but the the last 2 years the fall has been busy for everyone.  We need teachers first so let me know if you'd like to teach a class.

Class time is 1:30 - 2:25 and 2:30 - 3:25 pm.  They usually last 6 weeks.

A parent must remain on site during FACT classes. We will need nursery workers and workers in other classes.

If you are interested in heading up FACT classes, contact Susan Washabaugh.

Bowling at Jac’s Lanes

Time: 12-2pm

Moms Teas

It’s important for moms to get together and encourage each other.   We meet the 3rd Tuesday each month at Kathy Dale's house.  Contact her for more information.

Testing

VAHA will be offering the ITBS Test on May 17th – 19th from 8:30a.m. to 12:00pm each day at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The cost, which is set by BJU Press, is about $42.80 per child. You must be a member of VAHA for your children to test. Applications for testing and your check for the costs must be submitted to Sherry Harrell, testing coordinator, at the regular March meeting on March 11th. Absolutely no exceptions! She will have applications for you to fill out at the meeting.

Parents who have children testing must be on the premises of the church at all times while the tests are being administered.

The children are divided into six different testing groups: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd through 5th, 6th through 8th, and 9th through 12th. In order to make the testing environment nonstressful, the children are given frequent breaks and a snack each day.  In addition, parents are expected to help with one chore during the testing such as preparing snacks, cleaning up, keeping the nursery, etc.

Georgia’s Home Study law requires homeschooled children to take a nationally normed standardized test (ex. ITBS, SAT, CAT) at the end of grades 3, 6 and 9. In addition, many of us like to test our children at the end of each grade so that we have some sense of how our children are doing. So VAHA offers the ITBS Test each year to children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade as a service to its members.
