Join us at our next meeting on Thursday, February 9 at 2 p.m.

In February we celebrate Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays.  We will have crafts and activities to honor them and learn more about our presidents.  The teens will play goofy tennis and other sports games.

The meeting will be at McKey Park from 2-4pm.  Bring drinks and snacks for your family.

So make sure you come join us on the 9th. If you are not yet a VAHA member, but would like to come join us, please contact Darcy to let her know you'll be attending so we'll have enough materials on hand for everyone to enjoy.

Kids Against Hunger

VAHA is raised money for an awesome non-profit organization, Kids Against Hunger. Our goal was to raise $150 to allow purchase of three boxes of rice meal ingredients. Kids Against Hunger of Cairo, GA visited our group on December 1st at 2 p.m to help us hold our own food packaging event that will help prepare nearly 650 finished meal packages to be taken to local area soup kitchens and/or food banks. We raised over $200!!

If you are new to homeschooling or new to the area, we welcome you to attend any meeting to check us out!! We encourage you to ask questions and find out more about VAHA. We hope you will decide to join our group to participate in future meetings and field trips. See Membership for more details.

VAHA offers the ITBS Test each May. The cost, which is set by BJU Press, is about $42.80 per child. You must be a member of VAHA for your children to test. The children are divided into six different testing groups: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd through 5th, 6th through 8th, and 9th through 12th. In order to make the testing environment nonstressful, the children are given frequent breaks and a snack each day. In addition, parents are expected to help with one chore during the testing such as preparing snacks, cleaning up, keeping the nursery, etc.

Georgia’s Home Study law requires homeschooled children to take a nationally normed standardized test (ex. ITBS, SAT, CAT) at the end of grades 3, 6 and 9. In addition, many of us like to test our children at the end of each grade so that we have some sense of how our children are doing. So VAHA offers the ITBS Test each year to children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade as a service to its members.
